Have you ever heard about the mythical creatures that can
Well, I knew they existed somewhere but had never met one in person. That is until Jay showed up at my door the other day. Jay is the guy that my husband found on Facebook that makes a living servicing air conditioning units.
There was something unique about this guy. For starters, he showed up early, which is very important when you are sneaking off from work to be home and get your AC unit serviced. Besides, he had better manners than a British nanny; he started every sentence with “may I please.” I wish my own kids would do the same!
But what really blew me away was the fact that Jay, who has been self-employed for the last ten years, casually shared that he just bought a house nearby and paid cash for it. Yes, he paid $200,000 in CASH for it!
He said that he had the money to do it, and that “why not?”. To which I answered “Wait a minute? Did you really pay cash for your home? No mortgage?”
“Yeah,” he answered calmly.

Debunking The Debt Myth
Wow! Thank you, Jay, for debunking the big myth that to become a homeowner, you have to chain yourself to a mortgage for the rest of your life! I tell people that it is possible to do, but they look at me like I am crazy!
From there, I had to find out all the details, of course, of how he had done the impossible possible.
“Fear,” he said. “My biggest motivator was fear, I didn’t want to end up in a nursing home or having to work all my life.”
That is what motivated Jay years ago to get out of debt. He had bought all the stuff, had driven the nice car, and had lived in the big house, but none of that made him feel happier. He still lived in fear.

Now, the all sweaty guy, on time and ready to climb in the attic in the scorching 100 F degrees Texas summer weather has the freedom to choose. “Do I want to work this month, or would I rather go fishing?” He caught this huge salmon up in New York.

It is real great to see that Jay is able to bought a house with all cash and live a life on his own terms. But if you see, hardly any person today has a habit of saving. They even don’t save enough that they can put 20% down. But in my opinion if you can use your own cash, you investment is better protected. You can reap high returns and save a lot of money that you will have to pay to bank if you had to get a mortage on it.
